Deciduous Trees
Deciduous plants drop their leaves seasonally, typically during fall. They offer year-round visual interest with changing foliage colors in spring, summer and fall. Some deciduous plants have striking blooms in spring or early summer and interesting bark textures and colors that stand out when the leaves fall. Some of our favorite native deciduous varieties include:
- Birch River trees: For a fast-growing native tree that attracts birds and butterflies, the Birch River Dura Heat® and Birch River Heritage® are great choices.
- Maple Reds: The hardy Maple Red Brandywine, Maple Red Sunset and Maple Red October Glory are stunning to observe throughout the seasons and make excellent shade trees.
- Dogwood trees: Attract songbirds to your yard with the red berries that grow on the Dogwood Cherokee Brave, Dogwood Pink and Dogwood Cherokee Princess trees.
- Oaks: We have an Oak for every outdoor setting, including Nuttall, Overcup, Pin, Red, Scarlet, Swamp White, White and Willow, which will make majestic additions to your outdoor space.
- Poplar Tulip: This attractive indigenous tree has stunning golden yellow leaves in fall and whimsical tulip-shaped flowers in spring.
- Serviceberry Autumn Brilliance: The bright berries and snow-white flowers of this native tree attract various birds and wildlife.
- Cypress Bald: The interesting texture and rich green feather-like foliage of the Cypress Bald make a beautiful statement when this tree is planted in groups.
Evergreen Trees
Unlike deciduous trees, evergreens retain their foliage year-round, offering consistent greenery throughout the seasons. When planted in rows, some varieties, such as Arborvitae Emerald Green, act as natural privacy screens by blocking noise and prying eyes with their soft, lacy, evergreen foliage. Some other types make excellent windbreaks. We have a range of native evergreen trees to choose from:
- Cedar Eastern Red: If you want a tough and hardy native tree, these Cedars are a beautiful choice and serve as windbreaks when planted in groups.
- Holly American Greenleaf: This eye-catching indigenous tree with a pyramid shape and spiny leaves grows well in sunny or shaded areas. It makes a beautiful specimen tree or a perfect tall privacy screen.
- Pine: For fast-growing and low-maintenance native trees, the Pine Loblolly and Pine White are excellent choices for screening and windbreaks.
Magnolias
Magnolias are true gems — both stately and elegant, these trees can be deciduous or evergreen. The distinctive beauty and lemony fragrance of the creamy white flowers make Magnolias a popular choice around the country. Choose from our range of Southern Bracken’s Brown Beauty, Southern Little Gem, Southern Teddy Bear® and Sweetbay Magnolias.
