Grasses

Add some movement and texture to your landscape! Grasses are the jewels of the landscape, with graceful foliage that dances in the wind. Striking color contrasts and elegant structures provide shape, height and seasonal interest. Once established, most grasses are low maintenance and drought tolerant. There are also tons of native options to choose from. You can use grasses as a border or an accent or to create a dramatic backdrop or screen.

Why We’re Proud of Our Grass Nursery

Grasses are totally underrated. Stadler Nurseries is here to tell you how every yard can benefit from dwarf grasses, variegated grasses, blooming grasses and many other beautiful varieties. Grasses can highlight the edge of a planting bed with grace and ethereal movement. Beyond beauty, their roots can also hold soil in place and prevent erosion.  Don’t skip adding ornamental grasses for visual interest and soil health.

Explore Our Wide Selection of Grasses

Like the grasses covering the plains of Africa, many varieties thrive in full sun. Other types can flourish in part shade, making grass a versatile choice that can be integrated into most lawns. Planting grasses to cover large areas is a great low-maintenance option and will attract friendly creatures like butterflies and birds.

Dwarf Grasses

Don’t let the name fool you — some dwarf grasses are enormous! Showstopping Dwarf Pampas Grass displays creamy-white plumes from summer to fall and looks stunning around pools, patios and ponds. Other dwarf grass varieties, like Fountain Grass Dwarf Hameln, are smaller and perfectly suited to rock gardens and water features.

Variegated Grasses

Variegated grasses display multiple colors on their foliage. Sedge Ice Dance is a type of variegated sedge with green and cream on its blades. It’s more tolerant to moist soil and is great for rain gardens. Similarly, Variegated Lilyturf has creamy yellowish-white and green blades, with the exquisite addition of lavender-like blooms that add a striking pop of color. It grows easily in sun and shade and adds beauty without much maintenance.

Blooming Grasses

There’s nothing quite like an expanse of blooming grass plants. Lush green and gold blades with pops of color can transform a yard and are usually very easy to grow. For example, Royal Purple Lilyturf has hyacinth-like purple flowers that bloom late into summer. Other blooming grasses have plumes that enhance bouquets with a romantic touch. The pink cattail-like plumes of Karley Rose and the cloudy, bright flowers of Pink Muhly create an outdoor extravaganza and complement flower arrangements.
