Leyland Cypress (Cupressocyparis leylandii)

Leyland Cypress

A large and noble needle evergreen tree, widely used today for screening and hedges. Its density, fast growth rate, and ability to be pruned makes it a perfect candidate for use as a screen in today's landscape. Leyland Cypress can also be very effective when planted singly or in small groupings and appreciated for its fine, feathery foliage and magnificent, yet graceful stature.

Size: 30 to 40 feet high and 10 to 15 feet wide, larger with time

Shape: Columnar to pyramidal outline

Color: Bluish green that holds its color through the winter

Rate of Growth: Extremely fast (easily 3 feet a year in youth)

Other Attributes: Can be pruned almost indefinitely to maintain shape

Growing Conditions: Adaptable to a wide range of soils but requires adequate drainage; grows best in full sun (will be thin in shade)
