White Oak

The White Oak is the Maryland State Tree. A majestic shade and specimen tree for large areas, the famous Wye Oak, in Wye Mills, Md., is a White Oak. Because of its taproot system, it is best transplanted when young.

Size: 50 to 80 feet high and wide

Shape: Pyramidal when young, becoming broad-rounded with age

Flowers: Brown to a rich red, which lasts longer than many other trees

Rate of Growth: Slow

Other Attributes: A native of big proportions.

Growing Conditions: Plant in full sun in deep, organic, acid, moist, well-drained soil.
