Norway Spruce

A large, stately evergreen which develops graceful, pendulous branches with age. Often used as a large specimen or as a windbreak/screen alternative to the Leyland Cypress. A weeping form also exists (see below).

Size: 40 to 60 feet high and 25 to 30 feet wide

Shape: Pyramidal with pendulous branches with age

Cones: Brown, cylindrical, 4 to 6 inches

Fall Color: No change

Rate of Growth: Medium to fast

Other Attributes: Sturdy tree for the large landscape. Moderately drought tolerant once established.

Growing Conditions: Plant in full sun in moist to average, well-drained soil.

Other / Related Varieties: Weeping Norway Spruce (Picea abies forma pendula). A beautiful specimen or accent plant with a pendulous growth habit. Should be staked to achieve the pendulous habit, otherwise branches become prostrate or trailing.
