A stately shade and specimen tree for large areas. Pin Oaks retain many of their leaves in the winter, providing seasonal interest.

Size: 60 to 70 feet high and 25 to 40 feet wide

Shape: Strongly pyramidal

Fall Color: Quite variable - russet, bronze, or red

Rate of Growth: Fast (12 to 15 feet over 5 to 7 years)

Other Attributes: A native. Moisture tolerant but also drought tolerant once established. Because of its fibrous root system, the Pin Oak is one of the easiest oaks to transplant in larger sizes.

Growing Conditions: Plant in full sun in acid, moist, well-drained soil.
