Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum)

Trident Maple

An excellent small shade tree for the patio, the lawn, along a street, or a townhouse. Deserving of much greater use given that it has nice fall foliage and attractive bark when it ages, as well as being a shade tree of smaller proportions. There aren't many better for providing shade for limited spaces.

Size: 20 to 30 feet high and wide

Shape: Oval to rounded

Fall Color: Variably yellow to orange to red. Colors up later than many maples, usually late October to early November

Rate of Growth: Slow

Other Attributes: Exfoliating gray-brown-orange bark when it ages. Drought tolerant once established.

Growing Conditions: Plant in full sun in average, well-drained soil.
